Top 10 Scholarship Tips

  • Apply only if you are eligible! Read all of the scholarship requirements and directions carefully to make sure you’re eligible before you send in an application. Your application can’t win if you’re not eligible for the scholarship.
  • Complete the application if full. If a question doesn’t apply, note that on the application. Don’t just leave it blank.
  • Follow Provide everything that is required. Don’t supply things that are not requested – you could be disqualified.
  • Neatness counts. Make several photocopies of all the forms you receive. Use the copies as working drafts to develop your application packet. Always type your application. If you must print, do so neatly and legibly.
  • Make sure your essay makes an impression. The key to writing a strong essay is to be personal sand specific. Include concrete details to make your experience come alive; who, what, where and when.
  • Watch out for deadlines. To help keep on track, impose a deadline on yourself that is at least two weeks before the stated deadline. Use this time to proofread your application before you send it off.
  • Before sending your application packet, make a copy of the entire packet and keep it on file in case your application goes astray. Make sure your name (and social security number, if applicable) appears on each page of your application to ensure that nothing is lost.
  • Give it a final “once-over.” Proofread the entire application carefully. Be n the lookout for misspelled words or grammatical errors that can give a bad impression. Ask a friend, teacher or parent to proofread it as well.
  • Ask for help if you need it. If you have a problem with the application, call the funding organization and ask questions.
  • Remember, your scholarship application represents you. Your ability to submit a neat, timely, complete application reflects on you. It’s the face you’re showing to this organization. Take pride in yourself by submitting your best application.

Top 15 Scholarships in Netherlands for International Students

Along with UK and Germany, the Netherlands is one of the top destinations for international students looking to pursue free studies in Europe. The degrees offered by Dutch institutions are internationally recognized and there are a significant number of scholarships in Netherlands offered by Dutch Colleges and Universities as well as scholarships granted by the Dutch government and institutions.

Netherlands/EU Government Scholarships for International Students

Netherlands Fellowship Program

The Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP) promote capacity building within organizations in 51 countries by providing fellowships for training and education for professionals. The NFP is initiated and fully funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs from the budget for development cooperation. The NFP offers fellowships for Master studies, PhD studies, or short courses at Dutch Universities or academic institutions.

The NFP has three sub programmes for individual fellowships:

The fellowships are further prioritized as follows:
• 50% of the budget is for applications from Sub Saharan Africa.
• 50% of fellowships has to be awarded to female applicants.

The fellowship
An NFP fellowship is intended to supplement the salary that the fellow should continue to receive during the study period. The allowance is a contribution towards the costs of living, the costs of tuition fees, visas, travel, insurance and thesis research. If applicable, the fellowship holder is expected to cover the difference between the actual costs and the amount of the personal NFP allowances.
The fellowships are awarded in a very competitive selection to highly motivated professionals who are in a position to introduce the newly-acquired skills and knowledge into their employing organization.
For whom?
The NFP is meant for professionals who are nationals of and work and live in one of the 51 NFP countries. The countries have been classified into two categories (I and II). Category I countries are priority countries and will receive more fellowships.
Candidates have to be nominated by their employer to be eligible for the fellowship. There also has to be a clear need for training within the context of the organization.
How to apply
You need to apply directly with a Dutch higher education institution of your choice, starting 3 February 2015.
1. Check whether you are in the abovementioned target groups.
2. Check whether your employer will nominate you.
3. Find a course.
4. Contact the Dutch higher education institution which offers the NFP-qualified course of your choice for application procedures.

Holland Scholarships

The Holland Scholarship is meant for international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who want to do their Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree at participating Universities in Holland. The scholarship amounts to € 5,000 which you will receive this in the first year of your studies.

Application criteria
• Your nationality is non-EEA.
• You are applying for a full-time bachelor’s or master’s at one of the participating Dutch higher education institutions.
• You meet the specific requirements of the institution of your choice.
• You have never before studied at an education institution in the Netherlands.

How to apply
You need to apply directly at the Dutch higher education institution of your choice, starting 16 February 2015.

2. Download the overview of participating institutions and study fields(425.5 KB).
3. Check if the institution of your choice participates in the Holland Scholarship and click on the link next to the institution of your choice to apply.
4. Apply before 31 March 2015.

Erasmus Mundus Scholarships in Netherlands
Erasmus Mundus is a programme of the European Commission. It aims to raise the quality of higher education in the EU and promote cooperation with non-EU countries through joint master’s degree programmes offered by partner institutions in EU member states.
Joint curriculum
The programmes are based on a joint curriculum offered by cooperating institutions in at least three European countries.
Both EU and non-EU students can apply to follow these programmes. Non-EU students can apply for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship while EU students can apply for a second Erasmus scholarship.
Dutch Universities participate in quite a number of study programs which are funded by Erasmus Mundus Scholarships. The scholarships allow international students to pursue a participating Erasmus Mundus study program for free. Find the complete list of Erasmus Mundus Master Courses and PhD Courses and from these lists you will find Erasmus Mundus funded courses that are conducted in the Netherlands.

Leiden University Excellence Scholarships

The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship Programme (LExS) is open to outstanding Non-EU/EEA students pursuing a master’s degree programme at Leiden University. Depending on the student’s merit, the scholarship covers 25-100% of the tuition fees. The highest award covers the tuition fee minus the home fee* and an allowance of €10,000 for living costs.

University of Maastricht High Potential Scholarships

Maastricht University (UM) aims to further strengthen its position as a leading European university offering high-quality education with an international orientation. To this end, scholarships are made available by the UM Scholarship Fund with the aim of encouraging talented students from outside the EEA to follow a master’s programme at UM. The scholarships include tuition fee, living expenses, visa costs, and insurance.

Radboud University Scholarship Programme

The Radboud Scholarship Programme offers a selected number of talented prospective non-EEA students the opportunity to receive a scholarship to pursue a complete English-taught Master’s degree programme at Radboud University Nijmegen (of one or two whole years). The scholarship is not an amount of money that you will receive on your bank account but consists of a partial tuition waiver. The tuition fee will be waived to the level of an EEA student. In addition the Radboud Scholarship also covers costs such as for visa, residence permit, health insurance and liability insurance.

Erik Bleumink Scholarships at University of Groningen

Amsterdam Merit Scholarships

The University of Amsterdam aims to attract the world’s brightest students to its international classrooms. Tilburg University has scholarships available for excellent international students outside the EU/EEA who are admitted to a Master’s program at Tilburg University (MA, MSc or LLM). The Hague One World Citizen Talent Scholarship
